Pittington Primary School is located in an old County Durham mining village. Like many educational institutions, they were dealing with rising energy costs and the difficulty of maintaining old fluorescent lighting, especially as the production of many of these fittings had been discontinued. The head teacher explained that funding had been made available for energy efficiency improvements and that they were eager to reduce both energy usage and the ongoing costs of maintaining their current system.
My Green Power was brought in with three main objectives:
- Reduce energy consumption
- Minimize maintenance costs
- Enhance the learning environment with brighter, more energy-efficient lighting.
We began by creating a comprehensive LED lighting design, utilizing modern lighting software to ensure that the lux levels in each room met the recommended standards for educational settings. In line with Pittington Primary's request, we selected fittings that would cause minimal disruption to the school's interior décor and came with long-term warranties, both for on-site and manufacturer coverage. Additionally, our LED fittings feature a wattage-switching option, allowing the school to adjust power output as needed after installation for even greater flexibility.
We carried out the installation in the last week of the summer holidays to ensure no disruption to students and staff. The entire project took just over five days to complete, during which we delivered and installed over 200 new LED light fittings. We also handled the safe removal and disposal of the old fluorescent fittings, ensuring an environmentally responsible transition. There were a couple of issues with small holes left in the ceiling from the old fittings in a couple of areas, which was rectified by the installers.
This successful project underscores My Green Power's ability to deliver sustainable, cost-effective lighting solutions tailored to the needs of educational institutions. Our LED lighting upgrade has not only reduced Pittington Primary School's carbon footprint but also enhanced their learning environment, supporting both the school's operational and educational goals.
