Red Rose Primary School is a maintained school based in Chester-Le-Street, County Durham. As with many schools and businesses in recent times, Red Rose Primary was faced with escalating energy costs and maintenance issues due to an outdated lighting system. We had a conversation with the business manager, who explained that they had some funding available to carry out energy efficiency improvements. They also highlighted the maintenance difficulties of the outdated lighting and that finding replacements for fluorescent bulbs was becoming increasingly difficult.
We set to work on our plan with the primary objectives of reducing energy usage, minimizing ongoing maintenance costs, and creating a brighter, more conducive learning environment for students and staff. We put together a full LED lighting design, incorporating modern lighting software to ensure the lux levels in each room were within the recommended limits. As per the client’s request, we also chose fittings that would cause the least disruption in terms of redecoration and had lengthy on-site and manufacturer warranties. Our fittings also contain a wattage switching option, which means the power output can be changed after the installation if desired.
We undertook the project during the second week of the school summer holidays, with the project taking us just over four days to complete. This included the delivery and installation of the new fittings, as well as the full removal and safe disposal of the existing fluorescent light fittings. There were 204 LED light fittings installed in total, with an expected reduction in energy consumption of 25-30%.
Once we had completed the project, we ensured the workspace was tidy, clean and set back to its original layout. We did a full walk round with the client who expressed how pleased they were with the new lighting.
“My Green Power, were able to complete a site survey and provide a very competitive quote for LED lighting for our school. They were able to provide suitable lights to hang from existing fixtures, as well as new fittings in suspended ceilings. The fitters were fantastic keeping us informed throughout their time on site and checking that we were happy with the work. They worked quickly and left each area clean and tidy, at the end of the job they ensured that everything was removed and left tidy. We were pleased with the lighting refit for our school.”
My Green Power was able to deliver an effective solution at a highly competitive price which will ultimately improve the sustainability of Red Rose School and reduce the yearly running costs.
